About Methodist Tamil Church, Bhandup
The Church started in the year 1957. It was started by the Rev. Justin N Harris. A lot many people contributed to the foundation of the church in Bhandup. It was a very humble beginning though, with a few people as it's attendees, the Church was run in a small ground, at Bhattipada Road, Bhandup. As growth continued, the Church moved to the classrooms of National School (NES), Bhattipada, Bhandup. The Lord was Merciful as He led His people in and through the church and His word's guidance. The services continued to journey in places near the Bhandup Police Station, with festival services being held at Miniland Hall, then it moved for a long period at a basement hall at Jangal Mangal Road in Bhandup. Running services for more than three decades in this basement, the Church had grown to an outstanding registered membership of more than 600 families, the outcome of which was this hall was overflowing with worshippers. And finally, the Church decided to shift to a larger geography and has been proudly standing now at it's present location at Gamdevi Road. Just in a few months of it's construction, it has now become a landmark. In all these years the Church not only saw geographical migrations but also saw some of the precious men of God as the overseer and incharge of the church. Christian faith's stalwarts like,
- Rev. J. N. Harris
- Rev. A. Sabarenjithan
- Rev. Dharmaraj
- Rev. Paulraj Athisayamony
- Rev. S. Retnamony
- Rev. Lionel Hector
- Rev. S. R. Mony
- Rev. J. Prince
- Rev. Tennison M. Peter
- Rev. Christopher Raja
- all of these great men gave their awesome support to the Church and kept it raising from one level to another, faithfully and sacrificially. These men of God were not just leaders for the people of this Church, but they had become a part of their lives and families.
Methodist Tamil Church, Bhandup will always be grateful to the ministration and oversight of these wonderful men of God.
